What was I made for?

Sep 15, 2023

In our world today, there exists a strong notion that demands us to excel in every aspect of our lives. We often find ourselves, therefore, striving relentlessly to showcase an image of flawlessness. But let's pause momentarily and delve deeper into the reasons behind this constant drive. The urge to achieve isn't merely about emulating others but is deeper than that, rooted fundamentally in all other aspects of our being.

Imagine the process of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. This remarkable journey isn't about trying to become something different but more of a natural progression. The caterpillar creates a safe haven for itself, undergoes internal changes, and emerges then, as a magnificent butterfly. Our own life journey mirrors this process—it's about evolving into our authentic selves and not about imitating someone else's idea of perfection.

People typically share the highlights of their lives on social media. This can inadvertently lead us to compare ourselves and feel insignificant. Yet, just like how each flower regals in its own unique beauty, we too possess individual qualities that set us apart. Comparing ourselves to others is like trying to measure a sunflower against a rose—they're different, I agree, but nonetheless equally mesmerising.

Accepting ourselves as we are doesn't mean we should stop aspiring for growth. It's not about being content with mediocrity but about progressing at our own pace. It involves recognizing our strengths and vulnerabilities and taking steps to refine them. This journey isn't linear—it's a path of constant learning, and adapting, and is one that progressively requires us to evolve to greater heights.

Discovering happiness doesn't revolve around reaching a fixed destination. Instead, it's a state of contentment with who we are. We might not have all the answers, but we have the ability to learn and change. Picture a map guiding a traveler through uncharted territories. Our values and interests serve as our internal compass, guiding us through life's decisions. As we navigate our way, we're crafting a personal narrative that authentically reflects our identity.

So, before you continue with your day, take a moment to ask yourself:

'What was I made for?'

This isn't about finding a definitive answer right away; it's about kindling a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Here are a few simple steps you can start with:

  1. Journal Your Thoughts: Grab a notebook or open a digital journal and write down your thoughts, dreams, and aspirations. Document your progress as you navigate the path to becoming your best self.
  2. Try Something New: Challenge yourself to explore a new hobby, skill, or activity that piques your interest. It could be painting, learning a musical instrument, or even trying a new sport. And who knows? These experiences might just help you uncover hidden talents and passions.
  3. Reflect on Your Values: Take some time to reflect on your core values and beliefs. What matters most to you in life? Understanding your values can provide clarity and guide your decisions henceforth.
  4. Connect with Others: Share your journey with friends or family members. Engaging in meaningful conversations about personal growth can lead to valuable insights and support.

It's crucial to recognize that being true to ourselves doesn't equate to a lack of effort. Rather, it's about embracing our uniqueness and feeling satisfied with it. In a world where conformity is often valued, embracing our differences becomes an act of courage. Instead of aiming to fit into an inauthentic mould of perfection, let's strive to be happier and truer versions of ourselves. However, remind yourselves as we progress that becoming the best version of yourself isn't a race; it's a gradual process of self-discovery, growth, and self-appreciation.
