University Application Resources: Tackling the Personal Statement and more!

Oct 15, 2025

The university application period can be stressful and disorganized without the right resources to guide you through the process. Paying for expensive college application services need not be the norm, because free and effective college application resources and bootcamps can guide you smoothly through the process, without costing you a penny!

Here are some of my favourite college application resources (as a current high school student):

  1. Schoolhouse.world College Admissions Workshops: Schoolhouse.world (SHW) is a peer-tutoring platform built by the founder of Khan Academy, Sal Khan. Schoolhouse hosts a workshop, in partnership with the Coalition App covering the following in a periodic manner, typically every 2-4 weeks during the college application season:
  • Preparing a college list: Experienced tutors who have already gone through the college application process will guide you through the first, daunting part of the college applications season: researching and making a balanced college list that suits your needs and fits your profile.
  • Drafting a college essay: SHW also helps you with the next step – crafting a compelling and authentic essay that showcases your unique identity
  • Understanding Financial Aid/Scholarships: SHW tutors will help you understand financial aid policies in different universities, helping you choose colleges wisely based on affordability and scholarship opportunities.

The next round of registrations opens on the 23rd of October, with the official session starting on Nov 7. You will be placed in a group setting of about 15 peers and meet for 60-75 minutes per session over the course of 2-4 weeks.

  1. The College Knowledge Foundation (CKF): CKF is a welcoming community that helps students and their parents navigate the college admissions landscape with resources like free essay reviews, college preparation sessions, free consultation sessions, application workshops and so much more that a student can benefit from. They also have a masterlist of college resources to help students in their early high school career plan and organize their high school years,
  2. Appily: It is a masterlist known for its scholarship matching service, helping students find scholarships that align with their profiles and interests. The platform features a vast database of scholarships and provides tools to estimate a student's chances of receiving each scholarship based on their qualifications.
