Many of you might feel disconnected from the methodologies and ways of teaching in school and yet feel obliged to go to University. But why do we need to walk on a path that we might not want, especially considering the presence of unexplored yet feasible alternatives? In this episode, Elaine Coffey talks about her experiences, shedding light on the possible paths that one might choose to take.

Often, schools may just focus on theoretical and singular experiences without giving priority to relating these on a practical level. While some of you might be accustomed to the current conventional route and might like the sequence that it entails, this mismatch could not go well with everyone.

When I was at school, I did not enjoy studying. I was much more practical. I was concerned that if I went to University, I would not able to stick to the 'more studying' and I couldn't apply that to a job or an occupation I really wanted to do.

Elaine's journey began with an internship and actual job experiences in the form of apprenticeships, covering her diverse interests, intermingled with courses, and diplomas along the way. She thinks that the varied placements that are offered give you space to nurture different sides of you are, rather than sticking to the one-way approach in schools.

Elaine has been working for the same company for over twenty-five years with quite many takeaways. And she believes that the process might not have looked like that had she not made the decision she did. Going to University might seem like the only option at the moment. But take your time to weigh in the various possibilities and look for what works best for you.
