The First Steps to Saving Lives: Pursuing Medicine as a Junior Student
Ever since I was younger, I’ve always been fascinated by human anatomy and how doctors seem to know exactly how to act under extreme pressure. I want to become a doctor—someone who helps people, understands science, and makes a real difference. But being in high/middle school, I’ve realized that chasing this dream starts much earlier than I thought.
Why I Want to Be a Doctor
For me, medicine isn’t just about stethoscopes and surgeries. It’s about care, compassion, and commitment. Watching how doctors work—whether it’s in real life, in shows, or from articles—inspires me. I’ve always felt drawn to science and helping people, and medicine seems to bring both together perfectly.
How I’m Currently Preparing
Even though I’m still in high/middle school, there are a few things I’ve started doing to keep my goal in sight:
- Focusing on science subjects: Biology and Chemistry are especially important, so I try to give them extra attention in class.
- Exploring beyond school: I read articles, books, and sometimes even watch medical procedures to learn more about health and medicine. Shows like The Good Doctor, Body Bizarre and Doctor Pimple popper are entertaining ways to learn a lot about different fields of medicine. Ben Carson’s books—my personal favorites are Think Big, The Big Picture, and Take the risk and Gifted hands.
- Volunteering: When I get the chance, I take part in community service or help out at school events. Also doing work experience at your local hospital. These experiences develop my empathy and communication skills, which allow me to be better equipped at understanding the healthcare sector.
- Networking: I ask questions to older students or even teachers who know about medical careers. Their advice helps me understand what to expect.
How ZNotes Is Helping Me Stay Focused
Studying all the subjects needed for medicine can be truly overwhelming. However, ZNotes provides resources to ensure studying is much easier. Their notes help me revise faster, especially when I need to understand complex topics quickly. I also use their past paper resources and join live study sessions when I can.
With the tools provided by ZNotes, I feel more in control of my learning. I don’t have to waste time figuring out where to start—it’s already laid out clearly.
Looking Ahead
I know it’s a long journey, and I’m only at the beginning. But every step I take now—staying on top of my studies, asking questions, building good habits—is a step toward becoming the doctor I dream of being. If you also want to pursue medicine, know that it’s never too early to start. The journey is long, but every big dream starts with a small decision.
Let’s make that decision today.
